Dr. Kathy Rumer GCS inquiry

Hi All! I live in the MD area and am on the hunt for a GCS surgeon. Dr. Kathy Rumer has come on my radar for the following reasons:

1. Accepts my Anthem Bluecross insurance
2. Doesn't require genital electrolysis
3. Short wait time
4. Within easy travel distance

But I have seen some horror stories mentioned about her but can't figure out how rare these events are compared to other potential surgeons. It looks like she has been conducting these surgeries for a while with supposedly 200-250 per year so I can imagine there is a bit of a vocal minority syndrome where the horror stories get the most attention. Anyway, what's the common consensus on her? Also, any suggestions of other surgeons that might fit my needs?

One other side topic, I have heterozygous factor V leiden and am continually on Xarelto to minimize the risk of clotting due to Estradiol. Any comments about blood clotting difficulties due to GCS (other than every surgery can potentially result in clotting issues)?

Hi,

She can do a type 1 vagioplasty. She can not do a separate cliteroplasty ( Type II), as of 2 years ago she stated such at a conference. There are several GCS docs that do a type I and say things like it saves money and time. I would make sure they can do a type II and if you decide to do it separate then choose accordingly. I had a Type 1 and a separate type II. Then the Type 2 was made much better in an OR under sedation. My citreous and hood look really good and it is robust. This is important if you use it

If you have an issue on the weekend some report having difficulty reaching the on-call staff and getting seen. You may have to get separate emergency care.

I know several woman that have been trying to get revision work and have not been able to get it scheduled.

Have you checked out Dr. Sherman Leis in Philadelphia?   I had GRS with him 10 weeks ago. I was very satisfied with him as a person, he has a recovery apartment at low cost attached to his clinic, decades of experience, and  a local GRS surgeon who examined me here in Israel when I returned home wrote in his report that his work was excellent.

   I'm another Marylander. Welcome to the site. I had my GCS with Dr. McGinn. Her wait is a bit longer. I would look into Dr. Bluebond Langner. I think she does insurance. She's out of NYC. I did a consult with her a few years ago. I found her very caring, but didn't go with her because she was very new then. My friend went with her and is happy. You might attend the Keystone Conference in March. Both Dr. Leis and Rumer present at the conference. I have personal experience with Rumer. I've had three, going on four surgeries to "adjust" her "work." Personally, I avoid her like the plague. Hope I don't see her at the conference. Oh, I think Dr. Meltzer is sponsoring the conference also and might be presenting as well. Not sure.

Oh yeah, with McGinn, I had to pay her fee up front, but my insurance reimbursed me fully. Some folks can't afford that, I know. Be cautious about short wait times. Sometimes there is a reason for this.
