     I see that you have just become a member here and this is your very first posting.

     I also see that our lovely member  @Steph2.0  gave you a warm Welcome to Susan's Place.
    As you post on the forums you will be able to exchange thoughts and comments with others that are experiencing many of the same things that you are.   I expect that you will be getting many members offering their thoughts and suggestions as you continue to post here. 

    This is the right place for you to be to find out what others may have to say that may have been in your circumstances and with your questions and concerns.
    There are a lot of members here that will be able to identify with your situation and as you continue to feel free to share with all of us.

Welcome to the site Lexi.  47 is a great age to start.  I was 57 and regret every year that I lost.   

Just wanted to say what you are experiencing is 100% natural. 

People like us have been around forever in human history and it's really only now that we are starting to be accepted. 

I took a peek at your other posts and it seems like you are a good person whose life has been all about being of service to others.  My personal opinion?  It's time to be of service to yourself.

Thank you for the kind words and the warm welcome, Jane!  I'm doing the best I can, under the circumstances. It's going to take me a long time to overcome the mindset that I need to protect the feelings of the people I love and value them over my own feelings 

I'm shopping therapists. I think maybe that should be my next big step.

But, coming to this forum and letting my feelings out in the open has been amazingly helpful and is really helping me achieve some inner peace.

It's going to take me a long time to overcome the mindset that I need to protect the feelings of the people I love and value them over my own feelings.

I've said it before and expect that I will again and again – I'm always struck and deeply moved by the capacity of those in the LGBTQ+ Community to put the needs of others in their lives before their own.  I suspect it has to do with knowing such intense and hidden pain for so long that we all have a deepened sensitivity to discomfort in those around us, and a desire to care for others the way we would like to be cared for.

I believe strongly that you can never offer everything you can to the world around you until you've done everything you can to be completely true to yourself.

And I completely agree with Janes Groove.  I think it's well past time for you to take care of yourself Lexi.

I'm shopping therapists. I think maybe that should be my next big step.

A Sherpa could come in very handy for the climb ahead. 

Do you have any LGBTQ+ resources in your community that might be able to recommend one?

Fantastic.  I'm so glad that you're here. 

I'm new here as well, and connecting with the world around me as my authentic self in every way I can continues to increase my own sense of peace as well.
