Hey Girls!!

It's been awhile since I've posted but I'm well in to my transition now and am officially out and presenting (yay ^^). I can't say like I'm unhappy because I have gotten some changes but I guess not enough... I'm finding myself wondering being at 1 year and close to 1 month on HRT... is this mostly it? I would love to hear some experiences others have had from the 1yr milestone :(. Did anything else change? Did you get more like facial fat redistribution? More breast growth? I know YMMV but I'm just having a slight meltdown like I'm not enough >.<.

Also I'm curious if anyone here has looked in to VFS at Yeson Voice Center in Korea. General thoughts about that? My voice is a major dysphoric point for me and 20+ voice therapy sessions achieved little besides giving me anxiety and stress.

Dear Claire:
It is all YMMV but in my own personal experience there was more to come for me after the first year....  more slowing body hair growth, softer skin, more breast growth from a B cup to a C cup, more feminine curves, not dramatic but noticeable, a better mental attitude, more emotions, etc.

Like you said and I state again, it is YMMV.

@Clairetheanalytical
Dear Claire:
I have a little more time now to be able to post some more about my own HRT experiences and possibly what you might expect from HRT as time goes on.

As has been stated over and over here on the Forums in many of my past comments on various posts, HRT will work uniquely in your own unique body.
What you read about other transitioning members experiences with HRT most likely will not be identical to your own experiences.

Some will experience more significant changes more quickly and then some will experience less significant changes more slowly....   it is all up to your genes and how your body reacts to the HRT.   Your doctor will  undoubtedly be continuing to look at your frequent blood test results during your journey to determine if any alterations in the medically prescribed HRT regimen are needed.

The adage that you have probably already heard regarding HRT and how it may work for various individuals
is "YMMV"  meaning that Your Mileage May Vary.

PATIENCE is definitely required.... usually not much happens very quickly with HRT... but changes will happen.  Here on the Forums you might want to do some reading of other transitioners posts and look at many of the posted HRT timelines and the before and after pictures. ....  they can give you a rough idea of what you MIGHT expect as time goes on.

Because you stated that you have been on HRT for a YEAR and a MONTH it is likely that you have already experienced some of the things I am writing about.
Many times the very first noticeable changes can be felt and seen within the first 3 weeks to a couple months... nipple and breast tenderness, erect nipples a lot of the time, breast bud lumps forming under the nipples and some pain when bumping your nipples.  Also as time goes breast growth may continue and there may be changes in body hair growth, also your own body and urine smell, changes in erections becoming less intense, less libido, etc.

Without a doubt this can be very "EXCITING and SCARY all at the same time."   One needs to hang on for an amazing ride.  Some of my best and most appreciated and dramatic body changes happened at about the  4 to 6 month point through the start of year #2 of my HRT journey.

For me, I did not gain a whole lot in my hips but my breast growth was very good and I achieved a B cup well before 2 years of HRT and after 2 years and approaching 3 years of HRT my breasts became a C-cup.
Many may possibly achieve an A or a B cup and some transitioners may possibly achieve a C-cup or even a D-cup.
Even though I was able to very successfully pass before I went full-time... when I did go full-time at the 1 1/2 year mark I have been passing 100% of the time.  Of course that is just my unique experience, I suppose I can thank my body makeup and my genes for all that.

We are here to rejoice with you in the good times and to support you in the not so good times.
One more time... PATIENCE is required.   The attitude of many people today is "I want it all and I want it now" ... that will not apply to HRT.
You might want to re-read what I just wrote so you can get a good grasp of the details that I mentioned.

Regarding your own future progress... things will happen with HRT, but in their own time and in their own ways in your unique body.

I will be looking forward to your continued updates as you feel free to post them.  Please hang in there!
Hugs and well wishes
Danielle

Several of the site members went to Yeson and I went to Dr Haben. No matter the doctor, I recommend voice therapy before you seek a surgeon so your aware what you will require. The time spent with the therapist will reduce the time you will need to spend with one after surgery because the lessons you learn will still apply.
Look here for voice information.

Wow Danielle thanks so much for the informative post!!  :'( :D

I've definitely experienced changes and in some ways i think lucky gene-wise too. But i guess there still are lot's of thing that just don't seem like enough... if that makes sense :/ so i guess I'm just hoping that HRT continues for me... being 26 now kinda worries me.

Thanks Dena!! I've actually done 20+ sessions with a private voice therapist and i did make progress but it was giving me a lot of anxiety to try and keep the pitch high. I eventually stopped because it was just causing a lot of frustration and anxiety.
From what I understand the VFS at Yeson essentially raises your base pitch *shrug*. My voice is definitely a big source of dysphoria sadly :/

I didn't know there was a vocal section of the forum! Thanks!!

Dear Claire...
I started HRT when I was still 34 going on 35, I am now 39 .... so, you at 26 years old makes you comparatively quite young....  no worries, there are many members here that have started HRT much later in life and have had wonderful HRT results and changes, many in their 50's, 60's and 70's.

Please continue to keep us all updated, we are your biggest fans and are always rooting for your success.

My experience has been that male fail came at about 4-6 months in with a lot of breast and hip growth at 6-12 months. The last four months (I've been transitioning for 1 year and 4 months now) have been... consolidation. More breast growth b cup ish at six months, c cup at one year, and d cup at this point. They are still growing so I might get to dd but I doubt it. More fat redistribution. Mental reprogramming, female orgasms etc more intense, getting to understand my new emotional 'normal' better.

My face is becoming more and more feminine and my hair has regenerated a lot, more so lately.  I notice my figure is getting better and better with weight gain/loss cycles. In terms of voice it was just a matter of practice and letting go of the mental road blocks. In my opinion at least for me voice surgery or therapy wasn't needed... just did the exercises myself.

Social transition and legal updates etc made it much easier! No more fighting with ID that doesn't match. Facial hair removal did a lot to help as the lack of any kind of shadow makes it super easy to not be mis-gendered.

I think that the most exciting changes are coming! Becoming more comfortable with my new role in society and expectations. To me the biggest changes come from within... becoming comfortable with the many changes and deleting the old body image.

I'm 44 and started at 43 so you have no issues with age!

I was 28.5 years old when I started HRT. I would agree 26 is comparatively speaking pretty young to be starting. I agree the second year and in the changes are rapid.

I like to think that the changes are sort of compounding. It starts off very slow and then after a while it just takes off and before you know it you look in the mirror and you finally are greeted with yourself. It's a liberating experience and when I looked in the mirror the first time and didn't see a guy I cried tears of happiness.

The best analagy I came up with was a train climbing a hill. Initially you labor up the slope but once you get up and go down the hill again... its intense! The rate of change just gets faster and faster.

I'm totally jealous of your breast growth! That's fantastic! Also this might be TMI but i don't think I've gotten female O's yet :( haha. Here's hoping it continues!!
I really wish I could... I mean i can get by right now but it definitely bothers me. It would just be fantastic to not have so much bass in my voice :/

Thanks... it came with much pain! But it was worth it. Trick with voice is to find that new 'neutral' that removes the resonance but doesn't sound too falsetto. It took time and quite a bit of pain (resetting neutral involves making muscles do what they aren't used to) but in the end the two sessions of voice therapy I did were chats... she had nothing to add. I think its just mental discipline (forcing yourself to keep that base out and get the right pace / intonation) even when you are tired or distracted. Eventually it becomes automatic.

Yes there are!!...I'm one of those ladies: I started HRT 3 days ago at 50 and already have breast growth. I'm on a high dose of E and also take Spiro. My Endo said since I'm in better health than some 35 year old people my body can handle it. I'm riding this E trail all the way to Grand Central Station girls!- and my hair is blowing in the wind!

Puberty takes longer than a year, I don't know why trans women panic at the one year mark - it's pointless. No, HRT is not a direct analog of puberty, but it is similar enough to draw some conclusions from.. Breast growth can take several years, as can fat distribution - assuming you actually work to make that happen. That really requires some weight loss followed by regains.

The general rule of thumb (based on what, I have no idea) is to wait at least 2 years before thinking about a BA or FFS, this is supposed to allow for "the majority" of growth/change to happen. Given the number of women who experience additional significant growth post orchi or SRS, I have to wonder about that.

This is not medical advice. Always consult your doctor.
