We're at our small neighborhood park with our 6 year old granddaughter, Ary. Lori gets referred to as Ary's Mom ... I get referred to as Grandmother!!!!! Horrible I tell you! Horrible !!!! Do I really look that old?
OK, the whole story:
Some other people came to the park. Father, daughter (D), grandmother(Grandma-D)
Lori's talking to 'Grandma-D' and gets referred to as Mom. Nope, Ary's Grandmother - surprise. A few seconds later I hear 'D' talking to Ary, they are about the same age. 'D' asked which one was Mom and which one was Grandma.
Ary is like, "No!! That's my Grandma" pointing at Lori "and my grandpa" pointing at me.
'D', looking all confused, goes, "She doesn't look like your grandpa, she looks like your grandma. How can she be you Grandma?" .. Ary, "Because she's a girl!" Which led to a 5-6 year old's arguing over grandma/grandpa/she's a girl.
I had to step in and tell Ary that it's not worth an argument, it's ok. There's not much I could say, still, I went up to 'D' and told her that Ary calls me Papa or Mrs. Papa. I'm just a little bit different. I don't think 'D's grandma caught on right away until Lori referred to me as her husband.
I walked over and explained to Lori what happened, Grandma-D was listening. After I walked away, as Lori tells me, Grandma-D's daughter is Trans FtM. Body Dysphoria but not transitioning (my words)
Small world. We're everywhere!!
Still ..
looks like your Grandma ...
HORRIBLE !!!!!!!!
