We're at our small neighborhood park with our 6 year old granddaughter, Ary. Lori gets referred to as Ary's Mom ... I get referred to as Grandmother!!!!!  Horrible I tell you! Horrible !!!! Do I really look that old?

OK, the whole story:

Some other people came to the park. Father, daughter (D), grandmother(Grandma-D)

Lori's talking to 'Grandma-D' and gets referred to as Mom. Nope, Ary's Grandmother - surprise. A few seconds later I hear 'D' talking to Ary, they are about the same age.  'D' asked which one was Mom and which one was Grandma.

Ary is like, "No!! That's my Grandma" pointing at Lori "and my grandpa" pointing at me.

'D', looking all confused, goes, "She doesn't look like your grandpa, she looks like your grandma. How can she be you Grandma?" .. Ary, "Because she's a girl!"  Which led to a 5-6 year old's arguing over grandma/grandpa/she's a girl.

I had to step in and tell Ary that it's not worth an argument, it's ok. There's not much I could say, still, I went up to 'D' and told her that Ary calls me Papa or Mrs. Papa. I'm just a little bit different. I don't think 'D's grandma caught on right away until Lori referred to me as her husband.

I walked over and explained to Lori what happened, Grandma-D was listening. After I walked away, as Lori tells me, Grandma-D's daughter is Trans FtM. Body Dysphoria but not transitioning (my words)

Small world. We're everywhere!!

Still .. looks like your Grandma ... HORRIBLE !!!!!!!!  ;D
I left the door open, only a few came through. such is my life.

This gave me many emotions as I read this!
But I had a horribly large smile at the last line.

Ha!  Love it!

Hugs and smiles, Jess

My goodness I got giggly just thinking about this one.  I don't have any grandchildren yet but that time is coming.

Hugs, Carly

My dear Faith, I do believe that you are complaining too loudly! I love your story and it put a big smile on both Deb and my faces

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks"

(with apologies to Shakespeare)
But now old friends they're acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
Well something's lost, but something's gained
In living every day.

I don't want to look my age
I don't want to look good for my age
... I want to look good ...

oh well, three strikes. It's not like I'm the first person to ever say that as they get old and decrepit
I left the door open, only a few came through. such is my life.

I had similar situation 20 years ago. My daughter who was in the sixth grade at the time went to a Campfire Girls shindig and when I went to pick her up, they all asked if I was her grandpa.  I was close to 40 at the time, but have had grey hair since my mid twenties. I too, do not want to look like a Granny. or old lady. While I still have an opportunity I want to look as vibrant and beautiful as possible to make up for the struggle to get here. And I only have to please myself.   We are young, we run green,Keep our teeth nice and clean,See our friends, see the sights, And feel alright

Horrible Indeed!
and one of the best chuckles I've had in weeks - especially since I enjoy both being a lady "of a certain age" and a grandmother.

Those aren't wrinkles, my dear, they are permanently etched laugh lines  ???

Aging is inevitable - growing up is optional.
