UK - 'Making of me' Channel 4 documentary series

Has anyone been watching this? Or anyone featured on it that is on here - well done to you if so.

I missed the first episode due to being too embarrassed to suggest it to my wife, but managed to catch most of the second.

One sad situation last night for me, was that it was featured on 'Gogglebox' a UK tv show that watches families watching different TV shows and chatting about them. 'Making of me' was featured and my wife (who doesn't know I'm questioning) turned and said to me 'I think I'd struggle if you said you wanted to be a woman'. I couldn't bring myself to respond other than a subdued 'ha'. It made me feel so sad. I have so much respect for those that have confronted their situations. But i feel so far away from being able to address this with my wife. I have at least made contact with a therapist, so hopefully will have a first session soon.

Lucy, don't get despondent. Unaware people have trouble grasping the concept that anyone could question their gender, as it's a basis of self identification. This is where education comes in. Look for information which might enlighten your wife, and see if you can subtly introduce it. Then look for points in that information which pertain to you and remember them for the discussion you may need to have.

My wife had no concept, but she recognised many feminine aspect of my nature, and while her initial reaction was to walk away, she soon realised she was attracted to my feminine traits as much as my masculine ones. That was 20 years ago. I do, however, do all the cooking, cleaning and such in our household. I guess the challenge would be greater for households with traditional gender role divide.

@Allie Jayne - Thanks Allie, I think we're both fairly open minded, but this will be a shock to anyone. I think I'll find the right time to tell her, but seeing a gender therapist first so I can at least get the right words in place.

Many programmes on British television are sold to US broadcasters as you know and therefore I suspect you may be able to see it realistically next year.

Its actually quite a good show - I have them on my Sky Q and unlike some other recent shows its well put together and quite sympathetic. Worth looking it up if you can find it

Hi Rachel,  I am sorry you are struggling with being trans and not being able to get help. I fully understand how it feels and the struggle to be married and come out/ not come out.

If you feel you will eventually come out and it is a matter of time or if you feel dark then I recommend discussing it with a gender therapist. Some how I developed the courage to accept who I am and address my gender. It has been very difficult and I somewhat lost my family in the process.

If you have to come out then you will develop the strength. I never thought I would be able to do it but I did. The marriage counselor said we both deserve to be ourselves and unfortunately we are not compatible and should divorce. This was very hard advise but very true. I look back on the session and realize she was spot on. Hopefully your situation will work out for the better.

Hi Rachel - as i am the only other Rachel commenting on this thread, I assume you are referring to me.
If so i'm not sure of either the relevance of your comment to this thread or to me.
Yes i've been on my journey a while. But I came out to family, friends and colleagues 5 years ago, I've been on HRT nearly 3 years , living full time 2 years and, name and passport changed 18months ago. I'm just waiting for my GRS Op which if no hitches should be this year.
