I've kind of been having a rough time at work at the nursing home lately.  Things that don't necesarilly have any thing to do with being TG although some are.  So I just need to vent a little.

A week ago we had a nurse working with us from a different floor.  I haven't worked with her except maybe once like a year ago.  So there we were getting report from her and she asks me in a short rude manner "so what do I call you, he or she".  I of course respond "she".  I mean like how obvious do I have to make it.  I've been full time for at least 6 months, i have obvious breasts, pretty curly long hair, wearing makeup, my nametag and gatebelt have my new name on them.  How dense.

And then tonite we were down to three people on the floor for like 30 people.  which doesn't sound bad except that they are all pretty intensive to care for and have demensia to boot.  To fill you in most of doors are locked during the day, but at nite the soiled linen closets are open so we dont have to be bothered with constantly unlocking it. The keys are kept on those little keyboxes with the pushbutton code next to the doors.

So I'm totally running behind getting people ready for bed and one of the "security" people was checking the doors etc.  I was  headed right for the soiled linen closet with a handfull of clothes and some full garbage bags and he walks by and LOCKS the door to the linen closet right when I was like 5 feet away. >:D He looks at me with a smirk and says "these are supposed to be locked" and then goes about his merry way.

What an ass, it was totally obvious where I was headed and he could have easily waited two seconds to lockit or if he was feeling really generous even (heaven forbid) hold the door open.  On that note all I have to say is that it is really discouraging that CNA's (thats me) who take care of peoples loved ones get treated like SH**; From the administration, families, pay scale (sucky, people at McD's make nearly as much) etc.  And they wonder why there is always a shortage of healthcare workers.
Any way despite all that I do love what I do.

Hey Audrey,

It seems like you've been having some off days at work lately.  I mean, I have to say, that one lady was really rude to you.  But at the same time, what can you do about stupid arrogant people.  As for the security guy, I must also say that that is probably one of the dumbest things anyone can do.  I mean, it's like he's trying to make your job harder for some dumb reason.

These are the days when you take home the bad day at work with you it seems huh?  I bet if your in that business type deal with dealing with people in a nursing home there is a lot to NOT bring home with you on a regular basis, mentally that is.  But it's understandable that every once in a while you just get worn out with all this "bs" at work.  I think it's an absolutely normal feeling.  If people still keep being rude to you and like you aren't given any chance at opportunities for a pay increase, maybe you should try to find a job at another nursing home.  Maybe one that will treat and pay you a little better.  Could just be a thought.

Either way, sorry about the bad days at work.  Hopefully with some time and some peace of mind you'll be able to forget all about it.  Go do something that you think you deserve for making it through all those days at work already :D

I've always wondered why doctors get paid so much more than child care workers. To me, the important thing in life is caring for people. Doctors, whether they care for people or not (and those who do care for people get paid less than doctors who work for insurance companies, for example), get paid insanely high wages in comparison. And nurses and extended caregivers also get paid far less then what they're worth.

I'm sorry you have to go through that Audrey. People like you are valued and valuable. I wish your pay scale reflected that.

Thanks for the support.  :'(
Its just a really hard job on its own without people making it worse.  I have a hard time emotionally with work.  I probably cry at least once every two weeks.  Kind of cathartic actually, and  its nice that the residents are so understanding and I always have a shoulder to cry on.

Actually I am thinking about finding a better paying job, but before that I am going to find out if my insurance will cover SRS.  I know it is a long shot, but I am going to have my therapist write them a letter.  That would make up for the lower pay as i wouldn't have to save so much.

I have to agree with you on that.  It's always a nice feeling of just like purging everything through like crying every once in a while.  Feels like it cleans out your system emotionally and resets you back to equilibrium :D
