so that's where all our spring rain went, making up for the dry spell today!

I have been in contact this morning with my new property manager. My "official" move-in date will be June 13th, even though my physical presence will not be until after July 10th.

I still have quite a few VA appointments here this month, so escaping sooner is not possible. I have been able to defer some of the appointments to later when I get established at the new VA clinic. But some are very important to be done here. One of my priorities is to get surgery recommendations from my current healthcare team. I have been in their care for anywhere from two to eight years, so their recommendation will carry more weight than from someone I have just met.

I will be in Colorado from the 11th to the 15th to finalize the move, then to spend Father's Day with my parents before heading home. That is the current plan anyway. 

After that, I will be focused on getting utilities switched over, a change of address, setting up moving truck rental, and a final inspection by my current manager. I have a lot to do, but I am looking forward to the move. I will miss my friends here, but they all understand why I need to move and are supportive.

A nice coincidence, I just learned that when I was talking to my grand daughter the other night she mentioned that she wants to move to Colorado perhaps in the future. I had not yet mentioned that is where I had planned on relocating, just that I had planned on relocating. Her aunt lives out there. The universe is a strange place. Best luck to you Lori. I am from Colorado (went to high school in Loveland) and still have family in the area. So I know that Pueblo is not ideal. My priority has been to just find a place I can afford and re-establish residency so that State Law protects me. From there, I can take my time and find something more suitable.

My situation here changed dramatically, which forces me to move before August 1st. That hasn't provided much time to drive 500 miles each way to scout out the areas that interest me. After I move, it will be much easier to look around, and I will have a year before I have to move again (12-month lease). If things work out, I won't need to move at all. I don't enjoy city life, but that is where housing is available, as well as other services like a VA Clinic and such.

Let the adventure begin!

The change was for the better. South Dakota has become increasingly hostile to all LGBTQ people with recent legislation and newly emboldened bigots. I felt stuck because I could not afford to move (I live in an "Affordable Housing" apartment complex).

Last summer, I was having some... issues... that led to me asking the VA to re-evaluate my disability claims. After months-long reviews of my medical records, they increased my disability rating. And not just a little. (From 10% to 80% disabled.) That made a huge jump in my monthly income, plus some very nice back pay.

Because my rent is income-based, I no longer qualify to live here. But I can now afford to move. So the only question was, where to? Colorado has been proactively passing laws to protect transgender people and openly defying federal overreach. So, it just makes sense to go home.

Plus, Colorado has more gold. I have done well here in that respect, but it is now time to look for the next profitable strike. I expect that my physical abilities will continue to diminish as I get older, and mining is very hard work. I may just focus on rockhounding and making jewelry for fun and profit.

I tweaked my back and went looking for my back brace. After all, I will need it when I start hauling heavy mining gear.

As I recall, I packed it in the first box.

So it is on the bottom, in the left corner.



I'll have to move a bunch of boxes. I wish I had my back brace before I do that.

Lori, I was so glad to read that your home search has worked out for you.  You absolutely deserve to be in a community that allows you to live your life in peace.

Why is your occupancy date much later than your move in date? 
Did I miss reading a post of yours?

Did you have to pay for a month you would not be using Lori?

The lease will show my move-in date as June 13th. And I will pay pro-rated rent for that month. I wanted to hold the place so it would be taken off the market. It is now showing as unavailable.
