Quote from: Northern Star Girl on July 27, 2025, 04:03:06 PMHopefully with the wild wet and hot weather that you are having it is
staying DRY and COOL inside your home....    hopefully no roof leaks? ???

The roof is fine, but when we had the monsoon downpour that I showed, the rain was hitting the front door so hard it began to seep under it. I put down a rolled-up beach towel, and that was enough to keep it at bay. We have had a few more downpours, but no issues with the door. I suspect the wind was blowing the rain right at the door when it happened. If it happens again, I will talk to maintenance about replacing the threshold and/or weatherstrip.

I have managed to almost clear the kitchen floor of camping and mining gear. I am slowly getting the workroom organized as well. Pics to follow when I get it done... or dangerously close to done.

Congratulations on getting moved in. I must say I am a little envious of the double recliner. I am still on the boxing up stage on my move. Must be nice to get unpacked.

Thanks, Gina!

It is still a work in progress, but I am down to just the workroom and bedroom to unpack and organize.

I ran into a glitch yesterday. One end of the loveseat sinks when seated, and the sofa makes a grinding noise when reclining. I called Furniture Row and spoke to my sales associate. She spoke with her manager, and they are dispatching a repair technician to come out and fix them. Unfortunately, the tech does not work for Furniture Row or LaZboy. He contracts for them to do repairs and won't be in my area until August 6th.

Oh well, that is what warranties are for.

I am still looking forward to a day when I have nothing to do and can take a drive down to the river to check out the geology.  ;D

@Lori Dee
Dear Lori:
Be watchful, and be safe and careful.

Is your home in a low lying area... creeks ponds, etc???  OR are you at a
high and dry area above where water collects?    Your neighbors will be
helpful with their advice.

Again, be watchful, listen to the local news stations, etc.

At least you won't have to water your lawn.

HUGS, Danielle

I'm in a mobile home, so my floor is about five feet above the ground. Since I am in the city, the storm drains handle it pretty well. It is just during our monsoon season that the drains can get overwhelmed. On top of that, the city has been doing storm drain repairs for the past few months, so hopefully, their capacity will improve.

This storm is slow-moving, so they expect it to dump a lot of rain. We have two flood warnings expiring now, but another that will go to 9 pm. Then another round will hit us after midnight, and again tomorrow. So I am watching.

The local news is hilarious. The weather guy comes on with a big red banner that says "WEATHER ALERT". He says we are under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning and Flash Flood Warnings across several counties. Stay tuned, and we will tell you how to remain safe right after this.

Then they go to a commercial break and show seven commercials about things that I have no interest in. Yeah, thanks for the warnings.  Those commercials are more important than telling people how to be safe.

As long as the Arkansas River doesn't rise about forty feet, I am ok.

So now, I am listening to an oldie by Johnny Cash.  ;D

Hugs!

Did they inform you of the water rising flood possibility of your home before you rented?
Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

No, but I am familiar with this area. Southern Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona have monsoon season this time of year. Deserts are prone to flash flooding because there isn't a bunch of grass growing to slow down the water flow. The upside is that the water doesn't stay long. It quickly drains through the sandy soil. So I am not upset.  :)

I am glad you are not upset.  Will you be able to do gold prospecting near where you live?

Just try to stop me!

Yes, there are historical gold-bearing locations closer to the mountains, along the Arkansas River. I haven't had time to go scout them, but I am researching them. I have four locations that I am eager to go see and do some sampling. I'll also need to consult the USGS Stream Gauge data to see how high and fast the water is flowing. It may be close to Labor Day before I can get out there, but we will see.
