The South Dakota House has given its approval to House Bill 1178, which aims to prevent drag shows on college campuses. The bill, introduced by Rep. Chris Karr of Sioux Falls, specifically targets Board of Regents institutions and seeks to prohibit "obscene live conduct."

Critics argued that the bill was unnecessary, citing the existing policy preventing minors' attendance at drag shows.

"I think the policy in place is fine, I do not think it needs to be in statute," said Democrat Rep. Linda Duba. "This is overkill, and I think we should vote no."

Despite some opposition, the bill passed the House and will now move to the Senate, where a similar bill was defeated last year.

This is an ongoing story. The Bill has not been approved by the Senate nor signed by Governor Kristi Noem (yet).
