Ordered my first real hair wig yesterday and quite excited as I think it will be more manageable than the synthetic ones. Just going to take a while for it to be made.

Thanks Julie. Unfortunately the wig has seen better days and I struggle to keep the ever increasing frizz down. I did read on a Korean forum that a 50/50 mix of fabric softener and water is a good conditioner for synthetic wigs so planning to try that. When I can remember to buy the fabric conditioner.

I'm a bit lazy and also scared to wash and style it myself. I just bring it in to my wig shop and it is not too expensive for them to wash and style for me.

i've bought a few from halloween stores and amazon.
None have been glue on.
Big fan of wearing a wig as it makes me feel much sexier.

I pretty much have to, typical male pattern baldness means I would never look remotely female unless I did. Not sure what my options are if I ever decide to go further, invest in good quality wigs and make it work, I guess.

Because of my "part-time" nature I always wear wigs when I'm presenting my feminine persona.  Finding the right style was a real challenge, and while I was searching, I went through many different styles and brands until I found a style that fit me. 

I got a lot of advice throughout my search, particularly that I should get fitted at a salon, by a professional.  I heeded that advice, but I found that I could never achieve the same results the professional did when styling the salon-bought wig.  Eventually, I purchased a wig from the internet, based on YouTube reviews.  Ultimately, I found a wig that looked good on me right out of the package, and to make it even better, it wasn't really expensive.  The wig fit me so well, I bought several of the same style in different colors, and I couldn't be happier.

My wigs are the "Glow-Girl" style made by Forever Young.  Be cautious though, making a wig purchase based on someone else's recommendation, because what may look really wonderful on me, might not fit another quite so well.

I went to a specialist and not one of the synthetic or natural hair wigs did anything for me except make me feel like a guy in a wig. As a result: I do not wear one yet.

I have been shaving what hair I have left for a very long time, so I recently got this idea to get a henna crown I like. Still toying with the idea. If I go forward with it, I will post pictures

I used to when my hair was short and while I was going through the awkward phase of hair growth. Now it's only when doing a costume outfit which is very rarely.
I get a lot of compliments in the way my hair turned out which still surprises me but I mean, why change it then?

I used to wear a wig for a very short time while my hair was short.  I disliked every moment of it!  As soon as my hair was long enough that I could something semi female looking with it, the wig was put away, and is now catching dust!

I love wearing my wigs. They fit very well and are very comfortable.

The salon I got them from also sells a shampoo and conditioner for wigs and it does a nice job.

No, I still have some hair. I have started taking Finasteride, second month with little or no side effects, to see if I can grow some of my hair back. Up to now I have been reluctant to go down the wig route, thought I looks like great fun.

Daily. First thing I do in the morning is put on my hair, then turn on the light. The last thing I do at night is take it off. If I'm around people I don't want to know about me, I throw on a bandana. I know that's redundant but I have to have hair.

I am sort of the same way. If I leave my apartment I am either wearing a wig or a hat. I am sensitive about my scars near my hairline, so I keep them covered.

In the winter, I wear a full-coverage wig with long hair. In the summer when it is hot, I wear a topper. I prefer the topper because it clips in, is lightweight, and allows my long natural hair to flow out from under. Due to missing hair from a receding hairline, I removed the clips in front and used wig tape to secure the topper. Another issue is matching the wig color to my natural color. It was touch and go and involved several re-dos, but I finally got a close enough match that people think it is my natural hair. But if you look carefully, you can see the difference between my hair and the topper.

What's the best place to buy professional wigs? I have only ever bought ones from Amazon or costume stores.

I know if I were to ever transition I'd need a really good wig, prob made of real hair, or of really high quality.

Also what is the typical price of a high quality wig. Obviously I know depending on the length for the wig prices will differ.

I have a hair stylist here in town. She is also a distributor for Raquel Welch wigs. The VA referred me to her because they cover the cost. Nothing out of pocket. I don't know what she charged the VA, but looking online these wigs were not cheap. I have some that are human hair and some that are synthetic. I prefer the synthetic ones because they hold their style when washed. Human hair wigs act like human hair, you have to style them yourself after washing, but you can also color them just like your normal hair. I like being able to throw it on and go.

Check your local salons or there may even be a wig outlet store. By visiting these, they can measure you so you get the right size. I spend quite a while browsing her catalogs, then she uses swatches of hair to match the color. Once the order is in it usually arrives in a week. She also guarantees the color. If there is a problem, she can contact the company and get a replacement right away.

I will never have hair of my own, through my bald patch is definitely regrowing, but it is so fine. It has added to confusion, meaning when I am with K and not able to be myself I get male fail.

So back to my wig. It makes me feel and look much younger and I will always wear that shape as it suits me so well. All my avatars are unaltered selfies and is the real me in my wig.

I went to a wig specialist and she did an amazing job. It doesn't cost a fortune but the advise if worth £1m
