What's your favorite kind of apple? To eat, specifically. By that I mean, not to bake with. If you're doing other things with apples as well, that is 100% for another discussion than this one.

Growing up I strongly favored Machintosh apples, but mostly because they grew all around me. Plus they're nice and sweet... but awfully soft and watery.

In recent years I favored Honey Crisp (and their cousin, Cosmic Crisp)... but in the last year or so, and I have no idea if HRT has changed my taste buds or what... but I now LOVE Envy apples. I eat one almost every night. Sweet and crisp, I think they're the perfect eating apple.

In a pinch, I will accept a Sugar Bee apple as a substitute.

Anyone else? I'm always up for trying something new!!!

When I was younger I loved Winesap, but now it is Honey Crisp all the way.

I expect its different variety's in the UK but Jazz is the one I get in the supermarket, sweet and firm. Braeburn's are way to sharp for my taste.

I think apples are apples (but what do I know?) - your description of Braeburns sound the same as here, as they are sweet, firm but sharp too... they're good for baking since they're not watery... but yeah, not for eating.

I wasn't impressed with Honey Crisp, and Sweet Delicious isn't (at least to me). I prefer Gala.

Honey Crisp and Cortland are good for eating.  Gravensteins are great for eating, too, but are even better for baking.  When I did a lot of cross-country skiing, the dessert in my backpack was usually a Spartan apple, because they are available in stores all winter and are very crisp and tasty.

My least favourite is Red Delicious.  As far as I am concerned, the name is only half right.

Agreed!  Red Delicious aren't! :(
Goldens on the other hand are!  Gala too and Granny Smiths to bake.

Ummm... I think I may be slightly weird because I eat Bramley apples raw. I am quite fond of the sourness. Never bother with them for cooking, but they are yummy to eat as slices. :) I don't really like overly sweet fruits. Or sweet... well... anything. So, yeah :D

Hehe

But not on pizza!

LOL! The age old debate. I quite like pineapple on pizza. Ham and pineapple pizza is rather yummy. It isn't overly sweet. More fragrant.

sigh.

I always liked that scene in the bar in the movie "Good Will Hunting" where one of them gets the phone number and the rich harvard brat strikes out--

Do you like apples?  Yeah
How do you like them apples?

that is my fav apple-- them apples.

is that allowed?
