Gender surgeon says JK Rowling should 'not comment on stuff that she doesn't know much about'

In a video interview on LadBible's YouTube channel, Mr James Bellringer, a consultant urologist specialising in gender affirming surgery in trans women, said he wished Rowling would "stick out of what I do and not comment on stuff that she doesn't know much about."

"It seems slightly unfair to use her privileged position to make, I think, somewhat ill-informed comment about this patient group," he added, also saying, "I'm not going to try and write a children's book tomorrow."

"If you don't offer them appropriate support, counselling and in the end, surgery, we think about one in five of them commit suicide" – Mr Bellringer on the importance of gender surgery

I agree wholeheartedly with this. It's become part of pop culture these days that authors like Rowling, or Richard Morgan, feel they have some kind of authority to be a spokesperson for whatever. They know how to spin a yarn so that gives them the right to be an authority on real world people, living real world lives. Apparently.

Just because people know your name, doesn't make your opinion any less ignorant. You don't get a free pass just because you made a mildly successful fantasy franchise. When you wade into this arena, you just make yourself look like a fool.

JK is right. She is kind of a joke in most of the stuff she spews. I am half convinced she only does it to stay relevant. Since Harry Potter was only a thing like 15 to 20 years ago. Everything since has fallen well short. So she has to be a divisive commentator. Just so people know who she is. It's pathetic.

And the general public continues to feed them.

I am amazed at the number of people who get tax advice from their hairdresser, real estate advice from their auto mechanic, and even investment advice from a cartoon character.  ???

I had a guy once try to tell me he had a great investment broker. I told him I would consider investing with him once he answered a few questions:

1. How much did this broker pay in taxes last year?
(If he paid any taxes, he doesn't know what he is doing.)

2. If the broker is so great, why is working for someone else?

3. Why isn't he a millionaire by now?

Take your advice from someone who is doing it right. Get financial advice from millionaires. Get tax advice from someone who does not pay taxes. Get real estate advice from someone who owns a lot of real estate. Want to know something about transgender? Ask US!

Maybe the journey isn't so much about becoming anything.
Maybe it's about un-becoming everything that isn't really you,
so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.
