Posting summaries of new research about trans issues?

I've kept up with the research in this area for years and scan the science and sociology journals every month as a result. Is there any demand for notifications of new papers in our area?

For instance this month there is an open access paper, Gieles, Noor C., et al. ""No One Told Me How This Could Be Pleasurable" a Qualitative Focus Group Study into Experiences and Needs of Transgender People in Addressing Sexuality in the Context of Gender-Affirming Medical Care in the Netherlands." Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy: 1-21.

Traditionally, citing papers is encouraged and abstracts are treated as copyright free, or no-one would have a clue what some research had found. The snag is that abstracts are often more than 200 words long, but rarely that long. The one for this paper is 209 words, so it would be just too long.

If it is thought posting relevant research was a good idea, I guess it would belong in Science and News?

Let me know, because I hold a database of this stuff anyway.

Hi Tanya

Looking at the paper and Danielle mentioning about the correct formatting for presenting papers here on Susan's.  I suggest the following summary of the abstract which is within the 200 word limit.

QuoteGieles et al.  (2024) conducted a qualitative focus group study to explore the experiences and needs of transgender individuals regarding sexuality in the context of gender-affirming medical care (GAMC) in the Netherlands.  Despite challenges to sexual well-being, there is limited insight into how sexuality is addressed in GAMC.

The study involved 28 participants (ages 21-60) grouped by their GAMC trajectories and treatment goals, with each group meeting twice for a total of 12 focus groups.  Data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis, revealing three main themes:

  •   The need for personalized and balanced information
  •   Insight into the experiences of others and
  •   The importance of support and guidance from healthcare providers regarding sexuality.

The findings underscore the need for improved information and support to enhance sexual well-being among those receiving GAMC, emphasizing the importance of transcending cis- and heteronormative assumptions.  GAMC organizations and providers are encouraged to create an open environment for discussing sexual concerns.

The full paper is available online:

I hope this helps.

Best Wishes Always

I think cutting out the actual reference will make the paper much harder to find, but if the 200 word limit is a hard one, then I would cut the length of the edited abstract instead. I'll do that for the next one. Thanks.

TanyaG

I think your posting and my reply kind of crossed in transit, but thanks for the reformat and that's peachy because all of these posts will come out the same way. That's perfect.
