What would be your preference?

Would you prefer an all beef hot dog over a sausage (brat, kraut, Polish sausage, kielbasas, etc.)?

Speaking hot dogs, do you prefer the cheaper thin ones or the thicker meatier ones?

Chicago style hot dogs omit the addition of ketchup.

Would you eat a hot dog without ketchup?  Or without a specific ingredient, such as mustard?

Can't stand ketchup. I never, ever have it on anything. To me it's revolting. That being said, I can't stand the watery mush that classifies as hot dog sausages, either. When you think about what part of the animals it comes from, your mind starts doing backflips, lol. If I'm going to have a hot dog... I make my own. Cumberland sausages with English mustard, mixed with mayo so it doesn't melt your face off. (What you folks across the pond call mustard... it isn't. It really isn't. In the UK we call it burger relish, or "American Mustard". Like "American Cheese", it's seeing something and doing something that looks like it but isn't). Some horseradish or wasabi on top for some extra heat. Gently fried onions. Gently fried mushrooms, and a smear of cream cheese.

Not orthodox in the slightest, but damn fine!

These are Cumberland sausages:

In Europe, local ketchup differs from the USA ketchup I think.
Plus they do not seem to use as much ketchup there.

Chrissy, in Europe... everything differs from the stuff you have over there. Most of the stuff you have over there is banned across the pond. Fear of food poisoning. Not even kidding.

I noticed they do not typically use ice in served drinks in glasses unless you ask for it.

Hotels do not even generally have ice machines for travelers.  Food service has it but not ice machines for overnight guests.

Of course, with no ice you do get more of the drink.  That is a plus.

However, no free refills.  You pay for each glass of drink, much like one would pay for each can or bottle of drink.

I prefer beef over sausage but that is because many of the spices used in sausage disagree with my tummy.

When I lived in Germany, I was told (by my mother-in-law) that drinking cold things is not good for you. That is what they believe. They store beer and soft drinks in the cellar so they are cool but not ice cold. I found that beer at that temperature has much more flavor.

The other reason is that ice machines make their ice from tap water. There is a reason foreigners are warned: "Don't drink the water". If the locals won't drink it, neither should you.

I honeymooned in Paris and the tap water was brown and smelled bad. Taking a shower made you feel like you need a shower. One of the reasons the French are known for wine, bottled water, and perfume.

That's very much true. we don't generally have a glass of coke flavoured ice. I think me, and most brits, feel that the more ice you put in a glass, the more actual drink you don't have to put there to fill it up. So it's a cheap way to make people feel like they're getting more than they are.

Not to mention in Europe, most of the time, Diabetes is treated with social healthcare. You don't pay anything. So they kind of don't want you shoving all kinds of nasty stuff inside you to begin with. In the US it's like "Eat whatever crap you want, you're going to be paying for it. :P"

I had a "beer brat" last week.  After eating one I had to try another one, to see if ai liked it really.  Then I had to return to work.  I think the beer was cooked out except for the flavor.
