Story by Oliver Haug (20 Jan 2025)

On a Sunday evening in early January, hundreds of revelers twirled on the dancefloor at The Sinclair in Cambridge, Massachusetts, decked out in eye-popping outfits and LED-spangled wedding veils, throwing it down as local drag artists took the stage and the DJ spun tunes...

The revelers were there for Queerly Beloved, a group wedding event put on by a small crew of queer and queer-friendly wedding vendors, who saw the demand for their services dramatically increase in the wake of November's election. Lindsey "Lensy" Michelle, a wedding photographer and one of the six vendors that joined forces to put on the event, got the spark of inspiration for the event when a queer couple whose wedding she'd been scheduled to photograph reached out several days after the election, asking to move up their wedding.

While the ceremonies themselves were customized for each couple, with unique florals and readings, one thing was the same each time — besides the "for richer or for poorer" spiel. Officiant Jusmine Martin... included a quote from the Obergefell decision in each ceremony: "No union is more profound than marriage for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, and sacrifice in family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were."
