I saw an interview on the local news with someone from Fenway health... It's the clinic that serves most of the T*'s in the greater Boston area. its as about about the effect of the funding pause... Apparently they get a significant amount of Federal dollars.

I have no doubt that if the Tump admin goes into the details of all finding they would try to cut much of the federal funding to the Fenway center.

It does not affect be because I have insurance though work AND don't go to place that specializes in T* for my HRT...

But I will likely be retiring sometime this year or early next and will then be on medicare... And since my records say MTF and diagnosis of gender dysphoria I wonder if under Trump medicare will pay for the endo visits and tests... I think there is a very good chance will try to exclude it from medicare coverage.

In any case that diagnosis and reason for treatment IMO is just wrong for someone who is 24+ year post op!

With the trump admin it looks like the next 4 years, the federal government is going to actively be targeting/opposing/ hostile to us in ways it never was before.

The trump administration shows why the old days of stealth and sympathetic medical providers keeping it off ones medical records had it's advantages (if one could mange stealth).

In the "bad" old days most of the legal issues (or positives) were from states and this was handled mostly at the state level...

This will be changing VERY fast if the executive orders on what government money can be spent on.

Karen A I highly doubt the EO will affect us older Americans at all. I have been retired for over 5 yrs now and with an enhanced Medicare "private advantage plan" my PCP (Powers) ordered tests are covered %100. Meds are another issue insofar as not being "generic" so otherwise pay a pharmacy discounted full price.

Depends on type of advantage plan chose but I pay zero(0) additional over basic A/B plan cost.

Cheers!

"But it's no use now," thought poor Alice, "to pretend be two people!
"Why, there's hardly enough of me left to make one respectable person!"

I disagree. Read the executive order from last evening, Here

A careful read shows the playbook they will use going forward. The executive order declares WPATH guidelines "junk science". They plan to remove protections from the ACA section 1557. They are going to make it super easy to sue trans care providers. They are going to reapply existing laws in questionable ways to make providing trans care difficult. They will ultimately deny federal funding to any facility offering trans care.

I understand what I am about to write will hit many the wrong way. I'd like you to consider how immigrants are being treated. IMHO precedent is being set that when a perceived threat is sufficient due-process no longer matters. First they came for immigrants. Next they've come for trans kids. Soon they will come for me.

Perhaps I am wrong, I hope I am. This is a worst case we should all be ready for.

The earlier Executive Order, DEFENDING WOMEN FROM GENDER IDEOLOGY EXTREMISM AND RESTORING BIOLOGICAL TRUTH TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, dated January 20, 2025, Section 3:

"(e)  Agencies shall remove all statements, policies, regulations, forms, communications, or other internal and external messages that promote or otherwise inculcate gender ideology, and shall cease issuing such statements, policies, regulations, forms, communications or other messages.  Agency forms that require an individual's sex shall list male or female, and shall not request gender identity.  Agencies shall take all necessary steps, as permitted by law, to end the Federal funding of gender ideology."

This will affect Medicare, state Medicaid programs, and the Veterans Administration. Most private insurance companies set their coverage to align with Medicare. If Medicare does not cover a service, they won't either. There are exceptions, but this is normally the case.

Medicare does does not pay for everything and what is covered may change ... What is  happing now is different from what has happened in the past... and teh past is definitely not prolog .

the checks and balances are trying to be systematically dismantled to be replaced with loyalty to Trump...

BTW I don't intend to use medical advantage and  will go with a medicare supplement..There is a reason many call Medicare Advantage "Medicare Disadvantage" when you need a lot of medical services ...

I could never afford any of the Medicare advntage or supplement programs. If Medicare stops covering gender affirming care, even though I am not using it, I will opt out of Part B and save $180 per month in premiums. There is a penalty for doing that if you decide to come back and re-enroll. They increase your premium by 10% for each year that you could have had it but chose not to.

So if I opt out, I want to be certain that there is no chance I will be back. I'll just wait and see what happens for now.

If you get VA medical benefits, is there a need to have any health care insurance?

Perhaps, if the VA does not provide everything needed in health care?

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

The VA does not cover everything, same as Medicare. Things like "cosmetic" surgery. Medicare was covering Gender Affirming surgeries on a case by case basis. They have a string of requirements, but would approve it. The VA will not under any circumstances.

My thinking was that since the VA will not cover surgery, I could get Medicare to cover it. The VA will cover all pre-op screenings, letters, evaluations, etc. but not the actual surgery. They will also cover all post-op care, including revisions if needed. So it makes sense to have both so that different things are covered in the overlap.

But if both are refusing coverage, I see no need to pay Medicare a premium. I'll keep the free VA care amd discounted meds for as long as it is available. I haven't used Medicare for anything since 2019. Medicare uses the threat of a penalty to keep people from opting out. In some places, this would be called "extortion".

Sorry was not aware that basic A/B Medicare covers certain transition surgeries!

Vivian 'Wilson' Musk looks beautiful! I do not believe her father doesn't love and accept her!
I think it GREAT that we have a "trans-dad" in the administration!

"Currently, the local Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) determine coverage of gender reassignment surgery on a case-by-case basis. ... MACs will make the determination of whether or not to cover gender reassignment surgery based on whether gender reassignment surgery is reasonable and necessary for the individual beneficiary after considering the individual's specific circumstances. For Medicare beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare Advantage (MA) plans, the initial determination of whether or not surgery is reasonable and necessary will be made by the MA plans."

Um that is the reason Musk became rabidly anti-trans.

I can agree with this. She truly is beautiful, and the publicity can go either way, positively or negatively, depending on the perspective of the observer.

Upon following some of the recent publicity I think the two NEED TO GIVE IT A BREAK nothing positive is going to come out of laundering 'a family matter' in public. My father was "absent" throughout most of my childhood but still confessed "Love You Regardless" the desire to transition has been around wayyy longer than any alleged "Woke Mind Virus". Now more a pollical issue than any time in the past I think we only have ourselves to blame for pushing things too fast/too far and there's certainly more important issues at play these days.

I understand *passports* are now only to be issued on original genetic "male"/"female" basis? While I desisted almost two years ago due to 5 new Grandkids in the house (oldest one is 9) I still get a chuckle when occasional strangers call me "ma'am" it's a Southern thing ;) for sure).

But the thing is that for the public, it can spark conversations about other issues like estrangement, trans identity, or family dynamics, and everyone make a ton of money. But I agree that these discussions often get distorted by political or ideological agendas.
