The White House expects up to 10% of federal employees to quit in September in a program meant to end work-from-home practices, senior administration officials told CBS News.
A government-wide email President Trump's aides planned to send Tuesday says employees have until Feb. 6 to decide whether to participate in a "deferred resignation program," which would give federal employees the ability to decide now that they will resign in September.
"If you resign under this program, you will retain all pay and benefits regardless of your daily workload and will be exempted from all applicable in-person work requirements until September 30, 2025 (or earlier if you choose to accelerate your resignation for any reason)," the email states.
Only about 6% of federal employees work full-time in office, administration officials said. There are about 2 million federal government employees across the country, which means that the administration expects that as many as 200,000 may take the government's offer.
The voluntary program won't be available to personnel in the military, the U.S. Postal Service, immigration enforcement and national security or any positions specifically excluded by their agency, the email says.-----------------------------------------------
I was reading an article that said that just 6% of Federal employees (USA) work full time in the office. If true, I think that is ridiculous. Some of that may make sense, but 94% does not to me.
I am hoping that lazy or irresponsible ones take the voluntary federal buyout that gives the eligible ones about eight months pay and benefits, through the end of September, 2025. I think that some hard working ones will take the offer also.
There are hard working federal workers. But I also think there must be too many federal workers in some areas of government. I do not have any proof though that there are.
All employees, federal or not, should be dedicated workers giving a fair day's work for a fair day's compensation. All employers should treat their employees well. It is a two way street, with some bad on "both sides."
It is hard losing your job though. Many people lose them even if they do their assignments well for their employers.
Do you think there is severe waste in the federal government, of employees or other spending?
