Hi Jessica Rose,
It feels like there are some deep lessons about human nature generally and American culture specifically in this rising HATE STORM in which we are featured.
I remember in the 1980s and 1990s we were hated, vilified, targeted for abuse and violence. But eventually as we approached the 21st century, we slowly increased in numbers and found a small measure of tolerance. Then in the 2010s, the flood gates opened and everyone was sharing pronouns and lots of children started transitioning pretty early in life. Was a backlash inevitable? Yeah, maybe.
This all reminds me of the end of America's Civil War and Reconstruction. After the war, former slaves were free to move about the country and seek education and self-discovery for the first ever. And that lasted for about 15 or 20 years. And then Jim Crow happened and former slaves were pushed back into a posture of redoubled fear for their safety and cut off from many of the opportunities they got a taste of for a decade or two. And that ugly, vicious push back we innocuously call Jim Crow took nearly 100 years to come back from.
Good heavens! Please don't let this become a hundred years vilification of trans people!
