"LGBT crowd too small for big business

by Jay Butler

In response to the editorial board's opinion on the closing of Detour, I have to ask if any of them took economics. One of the first things about starting a small business is to find a demographic wide enough to sustain your business.

The lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community is not big enough in Athens to sustain an LGBT bar for a continued period of time."

Another thing is fickleness. Most clubs in montreal are short lived
and there may be more hip ones, even if they're not gay bars.
Gay bars are not what they used to be anyway, the community
is much more dispersed and less cloitered there.

Bars and clubs have a very short life span no matter who they are marketed to.  Its a tough biz.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...
