President Trump's decision to target transgender care in a proclamation declaring April National Child Abuse Prevention Month "betrays" the month's purpose, LGBTQ advocates said.

Framing the trans youth experience as "abuse" further stigmatizes an already vulnerable community, as the Trump administration tries to erase trans people from American life through policies limiting access to health care, careers, sports, education and more.

Trump's Thursday proclamation singled out transgender care, labeling it a form of child abuse without acknowledging the most common risk factors for neglected or abused children.

Gender-affirming care is supported as both medically appropriate and potentially life saving for children and adults by major medical associations, including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychiatric Association.

Trump wrote that "a stable family with loving parents" is a safeguard against child abuse, but most victims are abused by a parent, according to the National Children's Alliance.

By the numbers: In 2022, a reported 434,000 perpetrators abused or neglected a child, per the alliance.

76% of children were victimized by a parent or legal guardian in substantiated child abuse cases, meaning that child protective services agencies determined that abuse or neglect occurred.

To be honest, Lori, I think you need to find some kind of Himalayan retreat if it comes to that. You are one of the wisest people I've ever met. You could probably make quite a healthy living having people come to you and be like "Teach me, oh wise woman!" You could sell mushroom soup as some mystical life changing elixir. No actually, that's something I would do. You just do your mojo. <3

When I was a teenager, I often had recurring dreams that I believed were past life experiences. They were so real and not at all dreamlike. Wouldn't surprise me at all. I have a recurring dream of standing on a clifftop, in armour, wind blowing at my cloak. Looking out over an army. No idea why, or who I am, only that I'm standing there on the verge of asking a lot of people to give their lives for something. I know it's probably an amalgam of probably every movie I've ever seen but it feels very real. And no, it isn't 300 lol. That was my first thought. I can feel it like I am there. And I have this dream often. Always the same dream. Like I'm trying to remember something. Something tugging at the edge of my mind. I dunno.

I think the mind knows far more than even it knows it knows. And dreams are sort of a way to explore that, in a very messy way.
