Discrimination against transgender people widespread: study

The Human Rights Commission is releasing what it says is a world first inquiry into discrimination against transgender people.

The report has taken about 18 months to complete and includes 200 submissions and public consultation.

Commission spokesperson, Joy Liddicoat, says four out of five submissions have highlighted discrimination as an issue, ranging from physical and verbal abuse, to transgender people not being served in shops and missing out on jobs.

Well, now that they've published their report, it fulfills their obligation to the transgender community and they can get back to the important things of Gay and Lesbian issues and forget about us.

It only took them 18 months to figure out that transgender people are discriminated against?  What a revelation!

Might I add to the list, HRC should be right up on the top of the list. Then, how about good old Barney.

Okay, let's be clear on what we are talking about here.  HRC is the Human Rights Campaign.  This article here is about the New Zealand Human Rights Commission.  From what I know of the way the En Zed government deals with trans issues, I do believe they will actually make use of this report to make things better.  So let's cut them some slack.

I was going to point out that this was the Kiwi HRC, but Lisbeth beat me to the punch.
I've read other things from the New Zealand HRC, they appear to be a pretty cool outfit.

Ah, I found what I was looking for.  This was pretty interesting:

P.S.  It does make me want to emigrate to New Zealand.

I consider myself corrected and appologize to the nice people at the New Zealand Human Rights Commission.  I would never impinge such good people.  I was completly mistaken and humbly appologize.

I should have known better.  The Human Rights Campain would never spend 18 months on anything transgendered!
