For the last month or so I have been trying to figure out why I feel so lethargic and apathetic beyond the usual summer doldrums, Donald Trump and the constant media attacks on transgender women and children.
My estrogen levels have been essentially zero for at least the last two months. I started with a doctor who specializes in LGBTQ patients back in April and she noted on my blood test that my estrogen level was extremely low. She knew I was seeing my oncologist in the first week of July. The second blood test definitely showed zero.
The oncologist asked if I was applying my patches regularly. I just looked at her and said, "I am transgender. Putting on that patch is religious. I never forget to do it." She then said that I may have an absorption issue or bad generic estradiol patches. She switched me to the name brand and my insurance company fought back...what a surprise.
Eventually, we did succeed with the insurance company but they refused to start the prescription until the end of July, so I have been running on empty all this time. Spending some time on Dr. Google, I found that low estrogen does have a significant impact and can cause, among other things, poor sleep and fatigue. Bingo!
I hope the new patches will reverse this otherwise I will have to start the injections again...not my favorite.
I thought I'd share this in case anyone else bumps into this.
