No... that's, I can't imagine that would taste good. I have recently discovered a sort of inverted grilled cheese sandwich, done in the air fryer, lol. Well.. invented rather than discovered. It's yummy.
Ideally you want a scuffler. For non-Brits, and probably even non-Northern Brits, it's...
this. But any bread roll will do, as long as it's fairly large. Cut it in half, and spread butter or margarine on the halves. Butter is best, but margarine can be much healthier. Slice up some mature cheese. Mature is better for melting, I find, because mild cheese just ends up tasting like molten rubber. Spread the slices out on each half, trying to cover as much as you can. But leave a gap between them.
Gently fry some mushrooms until soft and yummy, then scoop them into the gaps between the slices of cheese. Add a dash of Worcester Sauce, or Hendos if you have access to the superior product. And place both halves in the air fryer, on 200 degrees C (392 Fahrenheit if US air fryers have that scale instead), for 5 minutes. Once cooked, the cheese will be crispy on the top and melted underneath, and will have combined with the mushrooms. Place one half on top of the other half, slice in two portions, and enjoy! The crispiness comes from inside the sandwich rather than outside. The outside will be only very slightly toasted, yet floury and yummy.
Can highly recommend. They are very moreish.
