Trump administration is using anti-trans orders to roll back sports opportunities for all girls

The Trump administration is using its anti-trans actions to try to dismantle civil rights for both trans and cis women alike – and it's taking an unusual route to do so.

The Department of Energy (DOE) is seeking to rescind the section of Title IX that says schools must allow students to play on sports teams with the opposite sex if there is no team for their sex available (unless the sport is a contact sport). The rule has allowed girls to play on boys' teams in schools that don't offer an equivalent girls' team.

The DOE claims the policy "ignore(s) differences between the sexes which are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality" and says eliminating it aligns with Donald Trump's anti-trans executive order, "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports."

If the rule does change, it will not only affect trans athletes. Schools that receive DOE funding will no longer be required to allow cisgender girls to play on boys' teams when a girls' team does not exist.

Shiwali Patel, senior director of safe and inclusive schools for the National Women's Law Center, told K-12 Dive the change is "blatant sexism, and harmful to women and girls."

″The Trump administration is trying to gut long-standing Title IX protections that intend to provide women and girls with more opportunities to play sports, and without following the legally required rulemaking process, no less."

The sooner this bigoted racist gets out of power and put in jail, where he belongs... the better. Hopefully with most of the people who supported his utterly idiotic, nonsensical populist garbage. Or who was just too scared of him to say anything. Because politician money is good money.

Won't be long now, folks. Hang in there. You can't get collective amnesia twice. :P

I so admire the optimism of Brits. We could use a wee bit this side of the pond.
Ten years after the Civil War ended, Jim Crow laws were passed. Fifty or so years after Roe v, Roe was dismantled. In America, anything is possible, and we don't even know why.

I presume from the context that DOE means Department of Education, not Department of Energy.
2015-07-04 Awakening; 2015-11-15 Out to self; 2016-06-22 Out to wife; 2016-10-27 First time presenting in public; 2017-01-20 Started HRT!!; 2017-04-20 Out publicly; 2017-07-10 Legal name change; 2019-02-15 Approval for GRS; 2019-08-02 Official gender change; 2020-03-11 GRS; 2020-09-17 New birth certificate

Actually, it is the Department of Energy.

The rescission of the rule would only apply to schools that receive funding from the DOE, which provides money to some schools for research and other programs, such as its Renew America's School grant to assist with energy upgrades.

The current administration will gladly use ANY possible door to curtail the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, and they don't care if cis women are affected.

I mean you literally can't get collective amnesia twice. He can't run for a third term. I don't even think the most Ted Cruz of morons could let that happen. No one outside the US could figure out how you let this clown into power a second time, but we all feel fairly safe that he can't get a third bite of the cherry. So he has limited time to cause havoc around the world... before even the beardiest of supporters are like "WTF did we do?"

That's kind of one advantage you have in the US. You put limits on your A-holes. In the UK we kind of don't. Margaret Thatcher was in power for far longer than she had any right to be. Almost 12 years. Between 1979 and 1990. A prime minister can serve as long as they want, as long as the people have confidence in them. Which is extremely stupid, in hindsight.

I love America and refuse to be out-stupided by a colonial relic.
Speaking of colonialism, the U.S. entered into hundreds of treaties with indigenous people (some 300 or so if memory serves me). Not a single one of those treaties went unbroken by the U.S.
But I promise you, I will not vote for the orange-utan for the third time if it does come to that.
