How do I turn off email icon below my avatar?

I've spent an hour in the profile settings and I cannot find out how to do this, but it must be possible because the majority of people only have the 'personal message' icon there. Yet I have an email icon too. Help would be appreciated.

I as a member I do not see your email icon.  Perhaps you figured out how to turn it off, OR perhaps it is visible just to YOU and staff. 

Likely you must keep an email address in your profile but it is probably not made public.  You can also come to the site but do not logon (be a guest) and find one of your posts to see what guests see.  I doubt a guest can see more than a member.
