Hundreds of "Good Trouble Lives On" demonstrations are set to take place in all 50 states on the fifth anniversary of the death of John Lewis, the Democratic congressman and civil rights icon. Lewis had often preached about getting into "good trouble" as he advocated for nonviolent resistance.

According to a host toolkit for organizers, the protests are demanding that Congress "protect our rights and ensure free and fair elections for all."

The protests are demanding an end to "the extreme crackdown on civil rights by the Trump administration," "the attacks on Black and brown Americans, immigrants, trans people, and other communities" and "the slashing of programs that working people rely on, including Medicaid, SNAP, and Social Security," the toolkit says.

We've been protesting for an hour in a nearby small city every week. It's been peaceful, safe, upbeat, fun, and community-building. It usually doesn't show up in protest listings, but is in search results for the name of the county and Indivisible. Local police keep us safe.

Sometimes, someone leads a few chants. Musicians usually perform. A few people dress up as relevant characters. Most people bring signs or flags. Organizers suggest a theme for each week. Tomorrow, the rally will include a truck at the weekly farmer's market collecting donations for SNAP recipients.

We enjoy making deeply-personal 2-sided signs each week, and talking with others about their signs.

I do not go to any protests.  I guess that does not fit my personality or desires.  But it is a fit for others.

I do serve food and help at mission kitchens and female shelters and food banks at times. 
This seems helpful and constructive ways for me to serve.  There are many people that need help.

We must serve, give wisely, and love.
