Donald Trump has promised to crack down on dissent and sent troops into US cities. His allies are claiming antifa, the decentralized antifascist movement, is behind plans to protest.
Still, this Saturday, even in cities with troops on the ground, millions of people are expected to march against the president as part of a second "No Kings" protest. The last No Kings protest in June drew several million people across more than 2,000 locations. This time, more than 2,500 cities and towns nationwide are hosting protests.
More than 200 organizations are signed on as partners for the 18 October protests; none have dropped off for fear of a Trump backlash, Levin said. The American Civil Liberties Union, the civil rights group, is a partner, as is the advocacy group Public Citizen. Unions including the American Federation of Teachers and SEIU are in the coalition. The new protest movement 50501, which began earlier this year as a call for protests in all 50 states on a single day, is also a partner. Other partners include the Human Rights Campaign, MoveOn, United We Dream, the League of Conservation Voters, Common Defense and more.-------------------
There will be two protests in Pueblo, Colorado, tomorrow. One is by Pueblo Indivisible (part of the No Kings protest), and the other is by Grassroots Pueblo, which has no affiliation with the No Kings movement. They will be collecting donated food for furloughed federal workers.
Personal safety is always a consideration, especially considering the latest actions by the Trump Administration to label people as "terrorists".
Republicans have called these protests "un-American", so organizers are encouraging people to wear yellow and carry an American flag. There is safety in numbers, and the numbers are expected to be the largest turnout for any protest in history.
If you attend one of these protests in your area, be safe, be peaceful, and LOUD.
If you do not attend, watch the news for Chicago, Portland, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City. The major news networks will be covering them. The reason it is important to watch is because we need the public to observe what is really happening, versus what the government says happened.
Remember that Transgender Rights are Human Rights, and everyone deserves fair and equal treatment under the law. That is not happening currently under the Trump Administration. Your voice matters no matter how you are heard.
