Forget Studio 54, Party Monster or even Stonewall. One of the queerest eras in New York City's history was the Roaring '20s and early '30s, when pansy balls were all the craze, cross-dressing performers were gloriously famous and the sparkling isle that was the Sodom of America was already a major gay travel destination. Traveling in the echoes of this fabulous Manhattan past in the 21st century is easier than you may imagine.
