The grandson of a literary legend talks about his famous family at a lecture next week. "Strange Tribe" reveals the dynamics between Ernest and Gregory, who tried to live up to his father's macho reputation. Gregory was a cross-dresser and ultimately transsexual. John believes that Ernest and Gregory, who both suffered from bipolar disorder and were fascinated with androgyny, had a special kinship as two sides of the same coin.
