Why is June the national month of gay pride?

Written by Reed Kohler

ACD News

"Though much of their reasons for raiding Stonewall can be argued, its importance to the black and hispanic gay community was undeniable. Most patrons were transgender or drag queens, and The Stonewall Inn was the only place in the entire city to accept them. With little to lose, this group of minorities decided to do something about the constant police oppression."

"Most of the LGBT were allowed to leave, though any patron "without IDs, those dressed in the clothes of the opposite gender, and some or all of the employees" were to be arrested."

"Officers singled out the transgendered, butch lesbians or effeminate gay men from the large crowd and assaulted them, some protesters receiving serious injuries."
