Dawn D.

Hi all! Just recently I have been diagnosed with Osteoporosis in my spine. Also, just at the beggining stages of it in my hips. I'm 50 years old and my PSA on my prostate is also climbing. I have been suffering with anemia for the last three years, as well my testosterone level has been checked and is on the very low end of normal. My GP had me start on Boniva for the Osteo and after just one pill it liked to have killed me. I am one of the unfortunate few that cannot take bisphosphates (Boniva, Fosomax etc.). Now, I have been seeing a therapist for my GID for the last four months and we have been making good progress. She agrees with me that I am T/S. My wife and I had decided that for me to begin transition was going to take a couple of years to get our house (so to speak) in order.

Now that this Osteoporosis situation has developed, the only real effective way to treat it seems to be through HRT (typically for post menapausal women) when you cannot take the new meds. It is not as far as I know or through any information that I have read, offered as a typical treatment for genetic males (with Osteoporosis). My GP says he cannot prescribe it without an Endo. doing his or her analysis, which is fine of course. This has now got me asking myself, is this a good path to segway into transition? My wife is OK with it. I'm OK with it. Somehow it seems like a dream I'm living in that no matter what, my body is pushing me towards HRT and to me that means transition. Yes it would be a couple years early, though, I think it would be easier getting everyone on my list, on board the acceptance train in them knowing that there is also a clear medical reason to do so. Any thoughts?

If you feel like you should, then you should, osteoporosis notwithstanding.

I hope you get well soon :)
