Studies on gender identity disorder

There have been plenty of studies attempting to determine a scientific "cause" of gender identity disorder. One widely accepted – though still working theory – is that gender identity is formed even before a baby is born.

Hell, you just have to look at all the Lesbian polar-bears, or the intersexed Salmon, or whole breeding populations of sea-fish spontaneously changing sex, or, or, or to know that it's biological, to know that it's on the steep increase, and to know that, while gender variation has always been a natural thing, the dramatic increase in intersex, homosexuality and transgender over the last 50-odd years is our fault.

Personally, I can't see how all those parabens, xeno-oestrogens and all the other crap the petroleum and plastic industry has polluted our environment can't not be affecting us. (Not to mention those nice hormones and anti-biotics and stuff we use in our food...) Humans keep thinking they're somehow exempt, but we're just like every other organism on this planet. It might be our crap, but it's still killing us, same as all the rest.

I really don't think that the whole GID or IS can be attributed to the chemicals that we make. I'm sure they have a percentage. There has been GID and IS since the beginning and there were no chemicals that we make now, back then. I do believe a lot of the disabilities that we have now can be contributed to all the people who take drugs and smoke. I don't blame it on the mothers either, the dads have taken a lot and the drugs can affect the genes and chromosomes. GID and IS is just something that happens along with Homosexuality, but with the the Gay people, they don't really know until they start looking for a partner and find out that they are attracted to their own gender. As with GID, we know when we can make a conscience look at the differences of gender and who we are. With IS, its more physical and of course like GID its a conscience look also. Just my take on the way we were.

Well, that's an open question I suppose, but I feel that it's a safe bet to say that if other animal species are showing increased incidences of sexual and gender variation, then we would be too. To be sure, there's always been variation, but I am convinced it's seen a dramatic increase recently. I read in National Geographic last year around August/September that the Polar-Bear population in Antarctica is actually threatened with extinction - that's how high the incidences of homosexuality is, and that they might not even survive to see habitat destruction from globabl warming become a real threat. Likewise, especially marine animals are going through EXTREME stress on their breeding populations, which would correlate with the fact that the oceans are probably the most polluted place on earth, far moreso than the atmosphere or on land.

As an aside, there was a book out about 3 or 4 years ago about the dramatic decrease that's been seen in human male fertility over the past 50 odd years. It postulates that, if the current trend continues, we will be sterile as a species within a few generations...

We are just recognizing GID, IS and Homosexuality. It's been around as long as life itself.

There are more of us 'identified' in the past 20 years. The insidious presence of hormones added to the environment may be a factor in some of that. But there have been transsexuals in every age -- there are numerous stories and historical records that show 'cross-dressing and cross-gender living arrangements in even the distant past to show that humans have been this way almost since the 'git-go.'

The increase in info and communication and medical technology have made it more acceptable more safe for us to 'come out.' And the condition has become treatable as well.

An explanation lends us a credence we haven't had before current times. But we have walked among people since there were people. Current explanations only indicate certain 'scientific' reasons for our being the way we are that have been unused in the past.
