I think that McCain will soften the hard edge of the fundamentalist conservative. But his party will continue to exert pressure to conform. I don't think that he'll cave on his personal beliefs. Whether he would cave on policy is unsure to me. However, I can assure you that both candidates in the other party will be much more open to positive change for equal rights than any one the Republicans can offer up.
