Wow--

I'm still stoked from today. I got up early and collected our own Terri Gene, then we drove to my studio so I could change modes (purple skirt, flowy-sleeved blouse, and my preview-of-coming-attractions wig.)  Luckily my studio was only about 15 blocks from the park where SacPride was held, and after a bit of negotiating around streets blocked due to the pride parade, we were parked and walking to the will-call entrance.

Once inside, we started searching for the SGA booth (more of one of those outdoor tents with tables and chairs underneath, really.)  I bumped into another member of SGA and asked her where the booth was.  She said she'd just gotten there, too.

After much searching, we finally found it.  I introduced Terri to those members I knew, and made smalltalk with the board webmistress and multimedia producer.  I found out my shift staffing the booth was from 12 to 2, and Terri and I circulated around the festival.

TG/TS people were a very small minority, but there was a broad cross-section of people attending -- meaning I didn't see any particular segment of the LGBT community predominating.  There were families with small children there as well.

On the outside of the enclosing fence were the bigots waving professionally-printed signs.  There were about 10 different 'messages', with about 5 copies of each.  One I rather liked was "God made me heterosexual, who made you homosexual?"  Uhh -- same dude?  The bigots were all gone by noon...

Lisa Hitomi (Terry and my electrologist,) showed up during my shift in the booth.  Lisa had not seen Terri since before Terri's stroke in January, and they fell to catching up whilst I hawked water and raffle tickets for an iPod.

After the shift, the three of us went in search of food.  This was only my second time out in a skirt.  The day was sunny and mild, and I quite enjoyed getting the hang of how to move in a skirt (the kinesthetics are a bit different than for pants, but many of you already know that  ;) )

As the day wore on, most of the trans people in attendance gravitated around the SGA tent to chat.  Although the event was scheduled to go to 6 pm, it had pretty much died by 5 pm.  Terri and I stuck around and helped the others dismantle the booth and load the parts into Ben's truck, then departed.

It was over so quickly...

It sounds as though you and Terri had a wonderful time, that's so great.  This is one thing that all new members should realize and that is Pride festivals are such a good place to go "Out" and participate in.  It's a generally safe environment and it is a great way to meet others and take part in outside activities, and of cause - support the cause.

There is a huge Pride dance here in Kingston next Friday and we plan on going as there are a few of our friends who will also be there.  One of the difficulties some face is dealing with the social side so Pride week is a great way to get your feet wet.
