I've never been one for DIY. Even at my most closeted, I could never develop an interest for cars and tools and stuff.

Up till now I've mostly been in a position where my Dad or brother could do this sort of thing for me, but with my brother having gone back to South Africa in December, I'm in London all by my lonesome.

So I need a desk. I go to Argos and buy one - "For one person self-assembly" it says. Nuts. But it's cheap so I buy it anyway. I can do this...

And I did! Ha! And probably in half the time it would have taken either my brother or my dad to do it - I read the instructions first, and I didn't feel the need to "make it better".

Exactly, Simone. So many guys just seem to think that the instructions are only part of the packing material!!!

personally im a bit of a handygirl.... my dad taught me and my little sister equally and we could both drive JCB's cars, and tractors by 15. Paint inside and out, make stuff, fix stuff, garden, the lot.... i tell you what, it will save me loads later in life when my husband buggers things up when trying to do diy
