I will proudly admit that I love listening to the NASCAR NEXTELL-Cup Series!

You are right, watching a bunch of cars going around incircles on the TV is boring.  All the camera really focuses on are the leaders and any crashes.  And if the race leaders have a 10 second lead on the rest of the pack... :icon_blah:

But...

The crew that does the radio broadcast give a constant, running commentary from all over the track.  Afterall, you have to visualize the race!  And if the best race is for 12th, they will cover about that!

I also enjoy the sound of Wright Cyclone R-1820's and Royal Royce 12-cylinder Merlins - especially if there are wings attached to each.

It's the noise-to-pleasure gene raising it's head again....

I feel the need!  The need for speed!

I'm blaming Hulk Hogan, who is the last pro wrestler I know of, which shows you how up to date I am.

well, tekla, you should go back to the website every now and then, there are a couple of new girls that the ladies just looooooooooooooooooovvvveee!!! mainly John Cena, my wife and sister think he's really cute.  ;D ;D ;D

and one correction Nascar's not Nextel anymore it's Sprint(what a big name change right?) and the Busch series is now Nationwide. i do kinda wish some more women would actually come out and drive in this side of the sport. I admire Danica Patrick and hope to see her win Indy finally.

Sorry, never got the big time 'rasseling deal, perhaps because I went to a university that had one of the top national programs in the real deal, and I did find that pretty exciting (but in Iowa in the winter, almost anything is exciting).  The super show biz deal with all the characters seems dumb to me.  But that's just me, I'm sure others find it cool, and I have a union brother who makes big money doing the pyro for some of the shows, they seem to love pyro.

I'd love to see Danica win too.  She has a huge advantage over Janet Guthrie who went before her, in that she is driving on a top team, and Indy is really a team deal.  Though I grew up in Cali in the 60s, and drag racing was big - real big, like Big Daddy Don Garlits, The Snake and the Mongoose, and of course, a real pioneer, Shirley Muldowney.  They tried to call her "Cha-Cha" but she rejected that pretty quick saying - I love this quote - "There is no room for bimboism in drag racing."

Back when there were no women in motorsports, Shirley won the NHRA Top Fuel championship in 1977, 1980 and 1982, and is number 5 on the list of all time drivers.  Not bad.  In the early 80 they made a movie out of her life called "Heart Like A Wheel" that is worth checking out.
