"This spate of violent crimes in Florida is an important reminder that violence against gay and transgender people continues to be a pervasive issue," said Giuliano. "These kinds of attacks are about intimidation and fear.  They're about sending a message that gay and transgender people are legitimate targets for violence—something that media have a responsibility to examine in their coverage of these brutal attacks"
