"Over time, the federal government and many states added various groups of people to civil rights acts, forbidding discrimination based on religion, race, color, national origin, age, sex, height, weight, familial status or marital status. Michigan, though, still excludes one of the most discriminated groups in our state from protection. These unprotected citizens of Michigan are those whose sexual orientation, gender identity and/or gender expression is "different."
