I've seen some threads mentioning TS dealings with the VA.  The rules say I can't direct people to other chats, forums, etc., but I think I can safely point transsexual veterans in some general directions.

The Department of Veteran Affairs is prohibited by law from perfoming "gender alteration surgery."

Some clinics/hospitals interpret that as zero transition support for preops.  Others will quietly provide hormone therapy to those preops with hormone letters from their therapists as well as mammograms and blood work.  Some will include GID in other mental health treatment (e.g., PTSD), but many don't.  Once postop and with paperwork provided to the VA, there should be no problems at any VA facility.

Those who are interested can contact me by PM about a news list for transsexual (TS) vets and/or can Google a 501 c 3 organization, Transgender American Veterans Association (TAVA).

Susan's has over 2000 transgender related links on the main page at the top of this page in purple
a search for TAVA will lead you the  link. and give you a small bit of infomation about the sight.
