SWAMPSCOTT — Barbara Sidman feels that her synagogue should be "not just accepting, but welcoming" to members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

To create that welcoming atmosphere, Sidman, her husband, Alan, and other members of Congregation Shirat Hayam have formed the North Shore GLBT Jewish Outreach Initiative. The group is looking to provide various events on the North Shore that explore sexual and gender identities in the Jewish community.
