Florida Red and Blue launches 'Say No 2' marriage amendment

"Miami -- Florida Red and Blue, the statewide bipartisan campaign fighting the Florida Marriage Protection Amendment, has launched the "Say No 2" campaign, urging voters to Vote No on Amendment 2, which will be on the November ballot. Amendment 2 is also known as the "same sex marriage ban" amendment, but it's consequences and effects will harm ALL unmarried couples in Florida, whether they're gay or not."

I would hope that some day we can grow up.  The government has no business in the marriage business.  In fact, the government should get out of it.  Let's form households, unions, whatever you want to call a family unit living together and list that in the legaleeze.

That way.... the churches may continue to have marriages within their walls and keep the sanctity of the commitment as sacred as they wish it to be.  Now... the gay churches should ALSO be allowed to marry anyone in THEIR congregations as they see fit.  Then, they can all go down to the court house and file the paper that says that they are a household, union, or whatever to secure the same civil rights they deserve.

I could not agree with you more strongly.  Although churches are allowed by the civil courts to perform marriages, no church can grant a divorce.  A marriage is a contract and contract disputes are the province of the civil courts.  A divorce is nothing more than the dissolution of a contract. 

This view doesn't in the least denigrate the importance, high position, and purpose of the marriage contract.  It needs to be undertaken with the greatest discretion (I should know --- been married three times) and the belief that it is until death parts the parties to the contract.

When the parties can no longer work together within the contract and both are still quite alive, it goes to court for dissolution, not to any clergy person or marriage commissioner.
