First of all, I'd like to thank those who either wrote to me or wrote a letter to the editor concerning my last column on the transgender series running in The Sunday Telegraph. Sometimes a columnist can feel like he or she is shouting into a void, if there's no feedback.

But in a way the responses proved my point: My column was inside the second section, and people still reacted, just as they would have to the transgender series even if it had been given a bit less play.
