Ahh, good to know thank you.  I figure something like Starbucks will be perfect once I retire and go back to school.  But now Dennis has me worried because I was planning on law school.  That hit me pretty hard reading that post.

Borders is a good choice as well.  They pride themselves on their diversity standards and actively recruit from the LGBT community.

That must be why as a seemingly straight up male they completely, utterly and very rudely ignore me.

yea i agree with you i know borders is usually seen as a open minded place to work & there were a lot of cool gay girls that i worked with there but as a trans person i can say they were not cool with me. things were fine for the first few months but one girl i worked with was friends with a girl i went to high school with, and the girl i went to school with told my co-worker than im trans. after that my co-worker started going up to other co-workers, supervisors, customers, etc and was saying stuff like "omg do u think she is trans? cuz thats what i heard" and once other people i worked with told me she was doing this i confronted her about it, and a few days later i was asked to quit.

i asked why and i was handed some papers from the security camera where she said i was shown making myself a drink at the espresso machine and not paying for it. this was weird to me because first of all i hate coffee/espresso drinks and never drink it, and secondly because the day i was being asked to quit was in january, and the date on the pictures said November 2nd. i thought it was weird to be saving them for over 2 months & bringing them out now. but the date reminded me that it was at the beginning of november we started doing our holiday promotional drinks, and the cafe supervisor told us that when we got some free time we should make ourselves a Peppermint Mocha or Gingerbread Latte so we could describe them & recommend them to customers. other coworkers also made themselves drinks then but it was never brought up to them.

so i said this to her and then she said "even if thats the case you take longer than others to make drinks" which was soooo BS. if anything i was one of the best in cafe because while most people in cafe were eventually moved to cash register, help desk, stocking, etc, i was almost always scheduled in cafe unless they needed back up somewhere else so i must have been doing something right. and if i was really so terrible at it (which i wasnt) why was i never offered any help to improve. i said watever though & just left, if they had to try that hard to think of excuses to get rid of me then why should i want to work there.

i hate to be all like "omg discrimination~" but it just seemed really obvious to me while i was there that i was being singled out & once word spread more about me being trans they wasted no time droppin me like a hot potato.

i wouldnt let that stop anyone from applying to borders, its probably more of a problem with the people at the particular store i worked at than the company in general, i'm just saying not all borders will be so eager & accepting of LGBT people in their stores. although needless to say im more of a barnes & noble fan now  ;D :P
