Next week, the Kansas City Council will vote on whether to update the city's nondiscrimination ordinance to include protections from discrimination based on gender identity. While currently, it is illegal in Kansas City to discriminate in housing, employment and public accommodation against gays and lesbians and bisexuals, it is perfectly legal to discriminate against transgender people. If the proposed ordinance passes, this will change.
