HOUGHTON — A federal bill that would ban job bias against gays, lesbians and bisexuals has been generating interest but not consensus among local LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) supporters.

U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., is leading a renewed push to pass the bill, known as the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. The bill, which passed the U.S. House in November, does not include protection for transsexual or transgender individuals.
