Be a man, Kosilek

link
4/5/2008

"Here we go again: Robert Kosilek, also known as Michelle Kosilek, is
still whining to have a sex-change operation ("State's new prison
chief said he would consider killer's sex-change request," April 1).
As the state's new correction commissioner, Harold Clarke should have
higher priorities than to "closely scrutinize" a murderer's request to
become a woman. Just tell him/her "no" and let him/her live with it."

Let me make an unpopular comment.

So a murderer can request for free SRS and all of us poor non-criminal trans people have to work our tails off to pile up the 10-20K?

I'm sorry. It sucks that you have GID, but it sucks more that you killed someone. I'd give it the thumbs down.

I do agree that giving SRS to a convicted killer, or anybody
in prison, is insane.

Though, I think HRT SHOULD be continued, since not
giving that would be akin to human rights abuse.

The question of which prison to put a prisoner before
SRS is quite a thorny and seperate issue since
someone in theory could have been on HRT for years
and living as a women for years prior to committing a crime.

I don't think they should be put into a man's prison (especially
if as I said they are continuing HRT) because then
unless they are kept in isolation for years, they risk
very serious abuse (again a human rights issue).

Putting them in a women's prison of course is politically
sensitive, but still, unless they have been involved in
a sex crime on women, the better solution.
