Building (New) Communities

http://www.pflag.org/blog/?p=180

As the GLBT community matures, new questions arise and new challenges present themselves.  For example:  What will retirement be like for gay Americans?  It's a significant question for many people in the community, and, as PFLAG's Phoenix chapter president pointed out recently, it also presents its own set of unique challenges and opportunities.

Speaking to The News-Sun last week, David Pape noted that the discussion about all-GLBT retirement communities focuses (appropriately) on creating a safe space for gay retirees.  But, Pape also says, those same facilities should consider the benefits of having residents interact with the larger community, which provides important ways to educate our neighbors and cultivate new allies.
