"Children gather in the church basement to play board games, do arts and crafts and get extra help with their homework. The church also offers ESL courses to both the young and the old, providing a desired service to the growing immigrant population. And at night, the church serves as a homeless shelter. Many who stay there are gay, lesbian or transgender teenagers."
