"Less than a week before New York's statewide gay lobbying group brings
it staff and volunteers to Albany to push for a law that would ban
discrimination based on gender identity and expression, a New York
City town meeting on the legislation showcased a split among activists
who want those protections added to the state hate crimes law as well
and those who oppose hate crime laws."
