Having taken his staff through the stages of loss, Morellet said he would now be leading his customers, who tend to be fanatically devoted, on the same journey. The wake will extend over the restaurant's last five weeks with parties featuring costumed transgender performers strutting up and down the counter, as they have done for other festivities over the past 23 years. (Morellet may join them as his famed alter ego, Marie Antoinette, whom he has revived every July 14, Bastille Day.)
